I was just issued a brand-spankin-new HP Compaq dc7600 Small Form Factor PC with a whopping 3 GB's of Memory and a 3.0 Ghz Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 630.   Without getting too scientific, I ran SuperPi on it since SuperPi seems to be the reference benchmark for all of my favorite Notebooks. Since this machine will NEVER be used for anything 3d, none of the desktop benchmarks mean much to me.

In any event, the machine scored 1 min, 46 seconds for 2m places on it's first run, and 1:48 on it's second run while I typed the first part of this. I ran SuperPi on my trusty newsed HP OmniBook 6100 with 1 GB of Memory and 933 PIIIm, and got a whopping 5 minutes, 33 seconds on the first try. At least the thing feels fast. Less than a week in the making, apparently P&P is diligently working on a mobile, enhanced version of the CAB which I first read about here: http://blogs.msdn.com/francischeung/ . The project can be found here Mobile Client Software Factory.

One interesting twist is that they (the P&P & Marketing Guys) changed the name from BAT (Baseline Architecture Toolkit) to the much cooler 'Software Factory:'

p&p, EFT and and Developer Marketing decided to apply the term "Software Factory" instead of "Baseline Architecture Toolkit" (BAT) for all three of the p&p BAT projects in development.

Recently, I had the opportunity to incorporate Serdar Dirican's ReportCreator into a Windows Forms application I am working on. I have had a great deal of experience working with all sorts of different reporting tools including Crystal Reports, Active Reports & Active Reports.NET, SQL Reporting Services, and Microsoft Access.

My current employer shys away from buying third party development tools, preventing me from using my favorite tool, Data Dynamics Active Reports, making ReportCreator the perfect reporting tool for my application. The integration wasn't flawless, as I had to work through an error in the reporting code (which is exceptional), but once I worked through the error, I was able to use the Report Designer to adapt one of the great samples to my application's needs.
