It would be really great if the core team would add a logon web service to a later version of DotNetNuke allowing DotNetNuke to 'Trust' user accounts, either from the original DotNetNuke site, or other affiliated sites. The latter I suspect could be done by the community.

An example I suggest would be like SnowCovered affiliates: when someone logs on to my site, the logon process would authenticate the user account against the local database. If no account was found, it would then attempt to authorize the user against an authorization web service provided by trusted sites, like again, SnowCovered.

Speaking of SnowCovered, what a great site!

I usually ride the trailing edge of any wave: I may not make a mint off my trailing edge, but I am at least on the wave! That has been the story of my career in Information Technology thus far.

In any event, the point of this meandering is not that, but I did open in that fashion because I recently discovered one of the best Sci Fi Shows ever to make it to the small screen: FireFly. I don't know how I missed this one: I guess I am glad I did, or I would have been heart-broken when it was cancelled!

I will save my own pov for my self, as readers can find out way more information on sites such as IMDB & FireFlyFan.net, for example. If you have even the remotest interest in Sci Fi, these shows/Movie are a must see.

I have commented often enough on various forums, on this web site, on other review sites, about my dismal experience with my HP Pavilion ZT1170, and I figured I should set the record (at least from my viewpoint) about HP straight.

There was an old adage I learned in Machinist's Mate Nuclear Field “A” School, and harped all the way through to the fleet: use the right tool for the right job. In my case, I purchased a consumer oriented HP ZT1170 laptop for what was then a veritable bargain at $1500.00 in December of 2001, which included three hundred dollars of rebates because I bought the unit open-box and it did not have it's original UPC symbols.

In any event, it wasn't long after I got the HP ZT1700 that it star ... Read More »

I am having loads of fun in my new job working as a small part of a large Service Oriented Architecture team. It is really satisfying filling the gaps in my knowledge regarding web services, XML, & XSLT.

I wanted to share with anyone reading this my discoveries regarding deserialization & xmlns... In my environment, we have a custom orchestration architecture similar to MS BizTalk in implementation which consists of various connector web services and a central orchestration engine, designed to hide implementation details from it's various clients. Much of what I do is translating various business objects from one namespace to another using XSLT and the plumbing necessary to get the xslt, transform a source document either submitted as raw HTML or Seriealized from a custom business object. I had always been familiar with XSLT, but never really grasped amazing how much work is saved with it.

Back to XMLNS: when working with complex business objects that have been seri ... Read More »
