My favorite open source project, and the one which runs this site, DotNetNuke, has just announced the release of version 3.0 to be November 1st. DotNetNuke is taking the development community by storm, having been downloaded in excess of 100,000 times.

I started with DotNetNuke after several futile attempts of developing monolithic ASP.NET web applications without a good core framework. DotNetNuke is simply a breath of fresh air after my futile attempts at a ground up framework for those two projects. Having programmed for over ten years now, having worked both as a lead architect and as a team programmer on existing architectures, working with DotNetNuke is akin to working with a piece of art.

DotNetNuke just makes sense. Developing modules in DotNetNuke is so rewarding because I can focus on the core functionality of the module, and not spend countless hours of the myriad ... Read More »

While surfing for information about the Dell Axim X50v, I stumbled across this great site:

PhysOrg.com  Latest Physics Research News, Recent Technology Breakthroughs, and Nanotechnology Advances

I spend hours every month trying to find great sites like this, so I figured it would be noteworthy to post it to any readers if I have any.

I have been tasked with the development of an SSO solution for my current employer. Based upon my experience with applications I have written from the ground up, and PA (Private Assembly) modules I have developed for use with DotNetNuke, it is a no brainer to use DotNetNuke as the basis of this solution, a DotNetNuke 2.x SSO (Single Sign-On) PA Module.

I have found numerous solutions documenting example frameworks for implementing Single Sign-On, however, I have yet to find a solution that leverages the DotNetNuke enterprise information portal framework.

As I said, I would think it would be a no-brainer to use this as the basis for this type of solution because DotNetNuke already has very nice facilities for:

  • User Maintenance
  • Role Maintenance
  • Logon Persistence
  • Forms Authentication
  • Third Party ADSI & Windows Authentication Modules w/Source included (TTTLogon)

In a nutshell, I will be integrating the solution found in ... Read More »

I just watched the Discovery Channel's documentary of Scaled Composites entry into the X Prize, and I was inspired. It is rare that a anything brings a tear to my eye, but witnessing these amazing individuals efforts brought all sorts of emotions out of me, including a few tears. These guys are amazing. More to follow... Read More »

Star Wars Battlefront is quite possibly the best looking game I have ever played. Unfortunately, they focused so much on the game experience that they completely forgot about how to get into the game experience, or control it once you are in it.

Specifically, the confangled server browser in Star Wars Battlefront is pathetic. It is annoying, clunky and barely useable. It does not offer filters, does not offer actual ping times, and continually resorts the list just when I try to join a game. To top it off, if you attempt to connect to a full server, it will flush the list and you have to go through the entire damned process again!

Separately but equally frustrating, is the confangled ridiculously impossible joystick configuration. If you have successfully configured your joystick, please email me or post somewhere how you did it, because I couldn't.

Other than that, the visuals are ecstasy itself, visual crack almost. Just too bad they did such a lousy job on the Joy ... Read More »
